Blended cottage cheese bowl with fruit, granola and peanut butter.

Forget about Greek yogurt parfaits, let's talk about blended cottage cheese bowls! I've been enjoying cottage cheese in dips and on toast, but this recipe has been my new go-to way to enjoy cottage cheese.

Cottage cheese has been all the talk on social media lately, but I know a lot of you are still skeptical. I'll admit, the texture may not be the most appetizing, but I'm obsessed with the nutrition benefits! Similar to yogurt, cottage cheese is a source of high-quality complete protein, calcium and vitamin D. And once it has a run through the food processor, the blended cottage cheese has the creamiest, thick texture perfect for anyone who can't stand the curds.

Our blended cottage cheese is the ideal blank canvas for a really easy bowl that comes together in 5 minutes, making it a great FAST meal or snack. Use whatever you have in the fridge, and I know it'll turn out delicious. Sweet or savoury, the choice is up to you!

    Ingredients

Ingredients for savoury cottage cheese bowl.

    Sweet:

    • Cottage cheese
    • Honey
    • Fruit of choice
    • Granola
    • Peanut butter

    Savoury:

    • Cottage cheese
    • Dried chives, garlic powder
    • Cucumbers
    • Red peppers
    • Cherry tomatoes
    • Everything bagel seasoning
    • Hemp seeds
    • Crackers

    Instructions

Adding cottage cheese to a food processor.

In a high powered blender or food processor add cottage cheese. If you are making the sweet bowl, add honey. If you are making the savoury bowl, add chives and garlic.

Adding toppings to blended cottage cheese bowls.

Once smooth, add to a bowl.

Spoonful of sweet cottage cheese bowl with granola and fruit.

For the sweet bowl,  top with fruit, granola and drizzle with peanut butter.

For the savoury bowl, top with cucumber, red peppers, blistered cherry tomatoes (see below), everything but the bagel seasoning, hemp seeds and pair with crackers of choice!

For the blistered tomatoes, you can add the tomatoes directly into a pan over medium-high heat with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and cook until soft. Alternatively, toss tomatoes in olive oil, salt and black pepper and air fry at 390F for about 5 minutes.

    Substitutions and Variations

Once you have your blended cottage cheese base, the toppings are truly up to you. Feel free to also adjust the spices and sweetener to your preferences! Get creative and use what you have on hand.

Here are some other toppings to try next:

    Sweet

    • Crumble a muffin on top
    • Candied nuts
    • Chocolate chips or cacao nibs
    • Nutella or Biscoff
    • Chia jam
    • Dates or dried fruit
    • Chocolate granola

    Savoury

    • Buffalo tofu
    • Pesto
    • Crushed peanuts or cashews
    • Fresh herbs
    • Crispy chickpeas
    • Pumpkin seeds
    • Veggie fritters

    Equipment

    • Food processor or blender

    Storage

Sweet cottage cheese bowl in meal prep container.

Blended cottage cheese will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container. I recommend storing the toppings and cottage cheese separately to avoid the toppings getting soggy!

    Top Tip

Be patient and allow the cottage cheese to get nice and blended before adding it to your bowl. This will give it a nice and whipped consistency, perfect for the base of your bowl!

If you're using a lower power blender, it may take a bit of time to smooth out. Try to avoid the temptation of adding liquid- this will result in a much thinner consistency, which we want to avoid!

    Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t like cottage cheese. Will I like this?

Yes! I find the reason the majority of people don’t like cottage cheese is due to the texture. Once the cottage cheese is blended it creates a nice and smooth consistency (without curds).

What does cottage cheese even taste like?

It has a creamy and slightly salty flavour. I sometimes compare it to yogurt, but it has a mild and less tangy flavour. Cottage cheese's mild profile means it pairs well with so many other flavors!

Can I double the recipe and prep it for the week ahead?

    Yes, of course!

Can I use blended cottage cheese for anything other than bowls?

Yes! I like using it as the base of sauces or dips like my garlic herb dip. Use the sweet version as a dip for French toast sticks or apple slices. It's also so good as a topping on pancakes!
