Finally... the PERFECT air fryer roasted chickpeas! Lightly seasoned and tossed in oil and air fried to perfection. Giving them that perfect crunch we all want. THESE are sure to be a staple in your house.

I love these savory roasted chickpeas. They make the absolute perfect crunch addition to any salad or bowl and the perfect high fibre and protein snack when you are on the go. However as hard as I tried I always found that when I tried to make them at home they always ended up far from the perfectly crisp crunch you get from store bought ones. That is why I made is my mission to make the perfect savory roasted chickpeas. Perfectly seasoned with that perfect crunch.

How Does an Air Fryer Help Get That Perfect Crunch?

Que the air fryer, my secret weapon in the kitchen. I was always told the secret to getting good crispy chickpeas was to cook them slow and low (aka at a low temperature for a long period of time). The problem was I am very impatient. So yes I am sure if you wanted to wait longer they would turn out perfectly in the oven but I needed a quicker solution.

When we got our air fryer a few months ago I was initially hesitant to try it. However once I started I couldn't stop. It is now my secret weapon to getting the perfect crisp texture in recipes in half the time! My air fryer brussel sprouts and pizza bites are just two of my very favourite air fryer recipes!

The exact air fryer we have isn't on amazon but if I ever decided to get a new one I have heard GREAT things about this one ( and it's currently on sale)!

If you don't know my love of chickpeas yet this is your chance to get caught up. Chickpeas are the perfect plant protein source in my opinion. Not only are they SO versatile (check out my salted caramel chickpea blondies, high protein edible cookie dough, or my veggie ratatouille if you don't believe me)! They are also a nutritional powerhouse- they add protein, fiber, folic acid and manganese to recipes. This means that not only are you getting a perfectly tasty dish but you are also getting some added nutrients. It’s a win-win.

What ingredients do I need for these Savory Roasted Chickpeas?

Chickpeas- Any canned chickpeas will do. I typically try to look for the low sodium option if I can but it's up to you! I have never personally tried using dried chickpeas- I'm sure it would work! A tip to get the crispiest chickpea possible is after you rinse the chickpeas ensure you dry them as much as possible!

Spices- For the perfect savory roasted chickpeas all you need is: salt, pepper, garlic powder and chili powder are all you are going to need for these! This is just my basic go-to chickpea recipe however feel free to change up the spices for different flavour combinations (ie. dill pickle, ranch or even pizza!).

Oil- Any neutral tasting oil will work (olive, vegetable, canola, avocado) I choose to use this Chosen Foods avocado oil because it's great for withstanding high temperatures and it's a great healthy fat choice!

    Perfect Air Fryer Roasted Chickpeas

    Prep Time5 minutes mins
    Cook Time25 minutes mins
    Total Time30 minutes mins
    Course: Snacks
    Servings: 1 can of chickpeas

    Ingredients

    • 1 can (286g) chickpeas rinsed and drained
    • 1 tablespoon oil of choice
    • ½ teaspoon sea salt
    • ¼ tsp black pepper
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ⅛ tsp chili powder

    Instructions

    • Preheat air fryer to 390 ℉
    • Drain and rinse your chickpeas. Spread the chickpeas on a small towel and gently pat them dry. Ensure they are totally dry before you toss them with the oil and spices.
    • In a large bowl, combine chickpeas, oil and spices and toss until fully coated.
    • Transfer chickpeas to the air fryer basket and bake for about 12-15 minutes (shaking the basket periodically).
    • That's it! Add to your favourite salads, bowls or eat by the handful for an easy snack.

    Notes

Please note air fryer cook times may vary as I find some air fryer run hotter than others! For best results, I recommend beginning to check the chickpeas at 10 minutes!

So simple, yet sooooo good! The perfect snack to have on hand when the potato chips in the cupboard are calling your name. And the perfect addition when your ho-hum salad needs a little something to up its’ game.
