This air fryer apple crisp can be made in less than 15 minutes, has all your classic cozy apple crisp flavours and is sweetened using only maple syrup making it the perfect treat for any time of the day.

Soft apples perfectly coated in cinnamon, topped with a crumbly oat based topping that's what you can expect when you dig into this air fryer apple crumble. It's one of those dishes that every single time I think about it I want to make it again... it's just THAT good.

Single serving air fryer apple crumble

If you've been around here for a while you'll know my love of single serving treats. So far I've made microwave cinnamon buns, microwave berry crumble, mug cakes, cookies and there's no sign of this obsession dying anytime soon. One day I was thinking about what my favourite pie was (these are the thoughts that go through my head daily) and I came to the conclusion my favourite pie is apple crisp. Now, I know apple crisp isn't *technically* a pie but to me it's in the same category. The problem was I didn't feel like making an entire pan and peeling ALL those apples.

Que this apple crumble air fryer dessert. It is so good it's good it's made for one (because you definitely won't want to share).

What Ingredients do I need for this air fryer apple crumble?

Apples- I love using honey crisp or royal gala apples but you can use any apples you have on hand! baked apple ion the air fryer is 10/10 in my opinion!

Oats- Minute oats, quick oats or rolled oats all work in this recipe so choose whatever you use most often. My favourite are these!

Cinnamon- The secret to a good apple crisp is lots and lots of cinnamon (okay maybe not that much haha) but you get the gist cinnamon is a key ingredient in this mug apple crisp.

Cornstarch- Using a little bit of cornstarch helps thicken up the apple filling a little bit more. You can also substitute it for arrowroot powder if you aren't able to use cornstarch.

Maple Syrup- Maple syrup adds some natural sweetness to this apple crisp. I personally love the subtle maple flavour it brings to this and have not tried substituting with any other liquid sweeter. If you decide to try using honey etc. let me know how it goes in the comments! Sugar-free maple syrup also works!

Coconut Oil- I use coconut oil for a lot of my baking for the sole reason that I love the subtle coconut flavour it brings. However if you don't have coconut oil on hand feel free to substitute it with butter!

Oat Flour- I love using oat flour in my recipes for a little extra fibre and whole grains. You can buy pre-made oat flour (like this one or you can just blend an equal amount of oats in a blender or food processor until smooth ( this is what I do). Note that I have never tested this recipe with any other type of flour, it *should* work but I can't 100% say.

Can I use an oven for this air fryer apple crisp?

This is a question I've gotten asked a lot on many of my single serve microwave and air fryer recipes. I personally like using the air fryer because it's just so quick and convenient. There's no need to wait for the oven to heat up, and it takes only 2 minutes to cook. So I'm all about getting my apple crisp as quickly as possible.

    Oven directions:

However if you're someone that appreciates the slower things in life

    1. you can bake this in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 25 minutes or until the crisp begins to brown.

    Microwave directions:

Another option is the microwave! This apple crumble can be made in less than 5 minutes in the microwave.

All you need to do is...

    1. Microwave the apple filling for about 30 seconds to soften the apples
    2. Remove from microwave, top with the crisp topping and microwave for about 2 minutes until top is a little crispy and filling looks cooked (start watching carefully at 1 min 30 seconds as every microwave is different).

    More air fryer apple desserts

I personally am a HUGE fan of the air fryer. I just love how quick it makes thing. Being someone who loves food but is very impatient the air fryer is my saving grace. I personally love this one (and it always goes on sale).

Although technically you don't need an air fryer to make apple crisp, air fryer apple desserts just make fall better in my opinion. Some of my favourite ways to use the air fryer for cozy fall recipes include:

    • Air frying chopped apples with some coconut oil, brown sugar and cinnamon and serving with Greek yogurt for a balanced snack
    • Slicing an apple in half, cutting out the core and making a baked apples in the air fryer! Brush your apple halves with some butter or coconut oil, cinnamon and sugar and air frying.
    • Mini air fryer apple crumble. If you're feeling too lazy to chop up your apple to make this recipe, just slice your apple in half, cut out the core, spread some coconut oil/ butter, cinnmon and sugar on each half. Then make your crumble topping (see below) and crumble over top of your apples. Bake in the air fryer for about 10 minutes and enjyo!

I love seeing you make my recipes! If you make this air fryer apple crisp-be sure to tag me on Instagram @nourishedbynic or leave a comment here letting me know how it was 🙂

I want to make this for an easy easter sunday dessert—can I do the apple mixture ahead of time? if so, how can I keep them from turning brown—I know a little lemon juice might help, but any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi Sarah! Yes Lemon juice would be perfect! I would squeeze about 1 tsp of lemon juice over the apples and it will help stop the browning process!

I don’t have an air fryer, but I probably make this in the oven at least once a week for dessert! So simple and so yummy!
