My BBQ Grilled Chicken Wrap is an easy balanced lunch full of flavour. Perfectly grilled chicken and veggies wrapped in a tortilla!

BBQ grilled chicken will never get old. It's good on a flatbread, in a chicken black bean quesadilla, but these BBQ grilled chicken wraps are the best for easy lunches.
We start with a base of chicken breast, grilled to perfection. Then we add Greek yogurt, BBQ sauce and coleslaw for the perfect mixture of crunchy and creamy. It all comes together in a whole wheat tortilla with some added veggies and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese. Doesn't that sound like the yummiest balanced lunch?!
This has all the nutrition of my chicken salad wrap, with some BBQ flair. It's great for serving in a packed lunch or throwing together at home.
Why This Recipe Is Dietitian Approved
- Balanced nutrition. Wraps are great because you can use a whole wheat tortilla, your favorite protein, and pack in the veggies for a balanced lunch.
- Full of flavour. No bland lunches here! This grilled chicken wrap uses all the flavors from BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and fresh veggies for a lunch that satisfies.
- All the veggies. Coleslaw mix is my favorite hack to boost the veggies in any meal without a lot of prep. We also add crunchy romaine and tomatoes to bring a note of freshness to this BBQ grilled chicken wrap.
Ingredients
Chicken breast. I use grilled boneless, skinless chicken breasts in this recipe, however if you would like to purchase pre-grilled chicken strips that's a great option to make this recipe even easier.
Spices. For the chicken we use paprika, onion powder, oregano and a little cayenne pepper.
Greek yogurt. We use a bit of this to help create the creamy bbq sauce for our coleslaw and chicken. I recommend using 0% plain greek yogurt as a replacement for mayonnaise, as it still delivers the creamy texture without added fat. This acts as a great wrap filling as it's creamy while also helping to boost the protein content.
BBQ sauce. Look for a lower sugar option if you can find one! My personal favourite is Stubbs original BBQ sauce.
Coleslaw mix. My favourite way to easily add vegetables to recipes without needing to peel or slice them! I typically reach for a broccoli or kale slaw as they tend to be a bit more nutrient-packed than a traditional cabbage-based coleslaw, mix however any option will work great.
Lettuce. The ultimate wrap topping for additional nutrients and a fresh crunch! I use romaine lettuce in this wrap.
Cheddar cheese. For our cheese of choice we use freshly grated cheddar cheese. Feel free to use any cheese of choice.
Tomatoes. For some added freshness we add large hothouse tomatoes.
Cilantro and green onion. I love adding fresh herbs and green onion for flavour and freshness. I find BBQ sauce can have a bit of a heavy flavour, so adding some cilantro and green onion into the mix lightens it up.
Tortillas. I recommend using large 10 inch whole wheat tortillas! I don’t have a favourite brand as I typically buy whatever is available.
The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

Substitutions and Variations
To make gluten-free: use a gluten-free tortilla.
To make dairy-free: substitute the Greek yogurt with mayonnaise and the cheese with a dairy-free cheddar option.
To make nut-free: this recipe is naturally nut-free.
You can get creative with your wrapping ingredients!
- Red pepper would make an amazing addition to this wrap
- Don’t enjoy coleslaw mix? Dont worry you can leave it out by using 2 tablespoon less of each the Greek yogurt and bbq sauce (this ensure the wrap won't be TOO wet)
- Feel free to replace the Greek yogurt with an equal amount of mayonnaise or use a ratio of 1:3 mayonnaise to Greek yogurt (if you still want the taste of mayo without all the additional fat)
Equipment
- Mixing bowl
- Pan or grill
Storage
The filling can stay fresh in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
After the wraps are assembled, I would recommend only storing them for a maximum of 5 hours as they will start to get soggy the longer they sit.
For a great meal prep option, prep the filling and toppings ahead of time and simply assemble your tortilla by adding the filling, cheese, tomato and romaine when you are ready to eat.
Top Tips for Success
Cook your chicken ahead of time and make a large batch of the filling to make these wraps easy to assemble during the week.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes you can! If you prefer to use grilled chicken thighs, I would recommend using about 4 large chicken thighs (0.5 lbs).
Greek yogurt is one of my favourite ways to reduce or replace mayonnaise in recipes. The higher the fat percentage of the yogurt the creamier it will taste, however as this recipe already contains some fat from the cheese I opted for a 0% option.
