Make lunches easy with my 10 minute Chicken Salad Wrap. Made with homemade chicken salad, avocado and crunchy lettuce, it's so satisfying.

Cross section of chicken salad wraps stacked.

Wraps are a staple lunch for me because they take 10 minutes or less to prepare. Top tip: make your filling ahead of time like my 5 ingredient chicken salad, and it'll be even faster!

This chicken salad wrap recipe is the easiest balance lunch that you can throw together the night before work, or during your work from home lunch break. It's so simple, but satisfying and nutritious. There are also so many variations to switch up this recipe (see below), so it's impossible to be bored!

I love pairing this chicken salad wrap with extra fruit and veggies and a sweet treat (try my yogurt dipped pretzel bites). You can't go wrong!

Why This Recipe Is Dietitian Approved

    1. Easy balanced lunch. This chicken salad wrap has a solid source of protein, fibre from the whole wheat tortilla, and healthy fats from the avocado and cheese.
    2. No cooking. I hate turning off the stove at lunchtime and I know you do too. Chicken salad wraps can be assembled straight from the fridge!
    3. Versatile. Pretty much anything can go in a wrap, so use up all those leftover fridge veggies.

    Ingredients

Ingredients including whole wheat tortilla, shredded cheese, chicken salad, avocado and lettuce.

Chicken salad. My 5 ingredient shredded chicken salad is one of my most popular recipes on the blog, but you can also use your own recipe. I love chicken salad because it stores well and makes it easy to prepare balanced, high protein meals.

Tortilla. I recommend using a whole wheat tortilla for extra fibre, but you can choose whichever you like. A 10 inch size will work best for this chicken salad wrap.

Avocado. This adds healthy fats, fibre and some creaminess into this wrap.

Shredded cheese. Any type of cheese works, but I used cheddar.

Lettuce. Crunchy romaine lettuce helps add volume and freshness to this wrap. You can also swap it for another leafy green of choice.

The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

    Instructions

Mashing an avocado onto a whole wheat tortilla.
    1. Spread the mashed avocado over the surface of the tortilla.
Adding shredded cheese, chicken salad and lettuce to tortilla.
    1. In the center of the wrap, top avocado with chicken salad and layer with romaine lettuce and cheddar cheese.
Half of a chicken salad wrap.
    1. Wrap up the tortilla by folding in the sides, bringing the bottom flap up and continuing to roll, gently pressing down to ensure the wrap is tight.

    Substitutions and Variations

    To make gluten-free: use a gluten-free tortilla.

To make dairy-free: if you are using my 5-ingredient chicken salad option, you can replace the yogurt with mayonnaise as mayonnaise is typically dairy free.

To make vegetarian: swap the chicken salad for my smashed chickpea salad.

To make nut-free: this recipe is naturally nut-free.

This wrap is great because you can really add any toppings you like. Some great swaps include:

    • Cheddar cheese: mozzarella, crumbled feta or even blue cheese
    • Romaine: butter lettuce, iceberg lettuce, spinach, spring mix
    • Avocado: hummus, green goddess dressing or any spread of choice.
    • To increase the veggies: add sliced cucumber, bell peppers or even sliced tomatoes

I have a couple different chicken salad recipes that you can use in this chicken salad wrap:

    • Greek Chicken Tzatziki Salad
    • Honey Mustard Chicken Salad (Without Mayo)

    Equipment

    None required!

    Storage

These chicken salad wraps are best eaten fresh. I find the chicken salad and avocado tend to make the wraps go soggy if stored for longer than 1 day in the fridge .

If you would like to meal prep these chicken salad wraps, I recommend prepping the chicken salad ahead of time, shredding the cheese, and washing/ slicing the lettuce. This will make it easy to assemble the wraps in less time.

    Top Tips for Success

Other than the avocado, try to keep the toppings along the center of the tortilla. This makes it easier to wrap the tortilla fully.

If you'd like to warm your wrap, I recommend brushing each side with a thin layer of oil once wrapped and placing it in a pan over medium heat until browned.

To make these wraps easier, prep the chicken salad and toppings ahead of time for easy assembly.
