This Pizza Dough with Greek yogurt is an easy, fast and high protein recipe for homemade pizza. No yeast required!

Pizza is arguably one of the best foods, and most people don't realize how easy it is to make at home. You can get all fancy with homemade sourdough crusts or keep it super easy with a tortilla pizza, but this pizza dough with Greek yogurt is the perfect median when you want a soft, fluffy crust without the extra work.
Honestly, this Greek yogurt pizza dough is so easy it feels like cheating. We're simply kneading some high protein flour with Greek yogurt and dried herbs for flavour. Then you add your pizza favorite toppings, bake, and you've got a delicious homemade pizza in under an hour!
We love making this pizza dough with Greek yogurt for family pizza nights. It's such a fun activity to do with friends or family, and everyone will be shocked at how good this dough is. Don't believe me? You'll just have to try it yourself!
Why This Recipe Is Dietitian Approved
- EASY weeknight meal. Homemade pizza usually isn't considered high protein, but with this Greek yogurt pizza dough it can be.
- Packs in a bit more protein. One slice of just the dough has 10g of protein already.
- No rise time. You won't have to plan ahead or wait for this dough to rise. Ready in 35 minutes!
Ingredients
Bread flour. I use the Bob’s Red Mill bread flour. I have made this recipe using all purpose flour and gluten-free flour and both were successful, however I find this dough works best with bread flour. The higher protein and gluten content in the bread flour results in a dough that is less likely to tear. It also helps create a chewier crust and crispier exterior.
Greek yogurt. Any PLAIN greek yogurt will work well. The greek yogurt adds moisture and a slight tangy texture, which eliminates the need for yeast and rise time.
Baking powder. This is a KEY ingredient to ensure the dough rises. Since we aren't using self-rising flour, this is essential. Ensure your baking powder is not expired for best results.
Semolina flour. If using a pizza oven, this is crucial to ensuring the dough doesn't stick to your pizza paddle! I use this one.
Dried herbs and spices. These are optional, but recommended for extra flavour. I add basil, oregano, and garlic powder.
The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine flour and baking powder (also add spices here too if you are using them).
- Once mixed, add in the Greek yogurt and knead until fully combined. There may be a little excess flour at the bottom of the bowl- this is normal.
- Sprinkle a flat surface with half of the semolina flour. Place the dough ball in the center of the flour. Gently press down using your hands to begin forming a circle. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough until about ¼ inch thick.
- Add toppings and follow instructions for pizza oven or conventional oven.
Substitutions and Variations
To make gluten-free: use a gluten-free flour of choice. I typically like to opt for baking or bread flour as this will provide more structure and result in less tears.
To make dairy-free: I have not tested this recipe using a non-dairy yogurt. If you decide to try please let me know how it turns out.
To make nut-free: this recipe is naturally nut-free.
This homemade Greek yogurt pizza dough is the perfect base for your go-to toppings. Here are some topping combinations I love:
- Classic cheese + pepperoni: I love using a high quality mozzarella cheese + turkey pepperoni and topping with a little drizzle of olive oil, chili flakes and basil once cooked
- Hawaiian: add pineapple and ham
- Veggie lover: add diced bell peppers, black olives, diced broccoli and cherry tomatoes
Equipment
- Pizza oven (optional)
- Mixing bowls
Storage
This pizza is best eaten fresh. If you have leftovers you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge (once cooked) and reheat slices using an airfryer or oven.
Top Tips for Success
Elevate this pizza crust by adding a sprinkle of everything bagel season on the outside crust before baking, and top with a drizzle of hot honey once it comes out of the oven.
Frequently Asked Questions
It does not! You can use any fat content of greek yogurt from 0% to full fat, just ensure it is PLAIN.
I wouldn't recommend it. Cottage cheese will be a thinner consistency and the measurements will change.

📖 Recipe
Greek Yogurt Pizza Dough
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cup bread flour 272g
- 1 ¼ cup plain greek yogurt 271g
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano optional
- ½ teaspoon dried basil optional
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder optional
- ¼ cup semolina flour for rolling
- Toppings of choice
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine flour and baking powder (also add spices here too if you are using them!)
- Once mixed, add in the Greek yogurt and knead until fully combined (there may be a little excess flour at the bottom of the bowl- this is normal)!
- Sprinkle a flat surface with half of the semolina flour. Place the dough ball in the center of the flour. Gently press down using your hands to begin forming a circle. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough until about ¼ inch thick.
- Pinch the edges of the dough to create a crust. Now depending on your cooking method follow either the oven or pizza oven options below.
Oven instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 F.
- Sprinkle a light dusting of semolina over the base of a round pizza pan or cookie sheet. Carefully place rolled out dough on the prepared sheet.
- Add toppings.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the cheese and the edges of the crust are golden brown.
Pizza oven instructions
- Preheat pizza oven for 20-30 minutes
- Sprinkle a light dusting of semolina over your pizza peel. Carefully place rolled out dough on the prepared peel. Add toppings. TIP: try to work as quickly as possible adding the toppings to minimize any likelihood of the pizza sticking!
- Carefully slide the pizza in the oven using the pizza peel. These pizzas will cook fast, usually about 3 minutes per pizza. To ensure even cooking, watch the top of the pizza. I like to turn the oven off for about 1 minute to allow the bottom to cook without burning the toppings and use a smaller peel to turn the pizza 1-2 times. Once pizza is browned to your preference (check the bottom), remove the pizza, allow to cool slightly, slice and enjoy!

I can’t wait to try this!!! Do you think you could prep this dough to freeze and bake at a later time?

I wouldn't recommend freezing the dough! I find Greek yogurt doesn't freeze the best!
