My Spicy Peanut Tuna Wrap is a delicious take on a classic lunch. It's bursting with flavour, protein and fibre for a balanced meal!

Two spicy peanut tuna wraps stacked.

Canned tuna is one of my favorite budget-friendly pantry staples for making chickpea tuna salad, tuna dip and tuna melts. In this easy lunch recipe, we combine other affordable ingredients like tortillas, peanut butter and coleslaw mix ot make these delicious spicy peanut tuna wraps.

All my peanut lovers are going to LOVE this recipe because it's full of nutty goodness from creamy peanut butter and crunchy chopped peanuts. These tuna wraps are equal parts spicy, nutty and slightly sweet. They're such a fast and delicious meal that you'll never be skipping lunch again.

Why This Recipe Is Dietitian Approved

    1. Easy lunch option. These tuna wraps are a great no cook lunch option.
    2. Serving of fish. Fish is a great source of protein that we're recommended to eat 2x per week and I love enjoying it in a wrap.
    3. Budget friendly option. We're using budget friendly staples like tortillas, canned tuna and peanut butter in this recipe.

    Ingredients

overhead shot of ingredients laid out on grey background

Tuna. I look for flaked albacore tuna that is packed in water. Albacore tuna tends to have a more mild flavour than skipjack, making it the perfect base for these tuna wraps.

Peanut butter. Natural peanut butter works best because it's more runny, creating a creamy base. Look for just 1 or 2 ingredients: peanuts and salt.

Lime juice. For a zesty, fresh flavour. The fresh lime juice brightens up the creaminess of the peanut butter creating a fresh and flavourful wrap.

Soy sauce. Soy sauce and peanut butter are a match made in heaven for a salty, creamy taste! Look for a lower sodium soy sauce if available.

Sriracha. For spice! You can also use a hot sauce of your choice.

Coleslaw mix. I love using a kale slaw (or even broccoli slaw) as an easy way to add veggies without needing to prep them.

Cilantro. For freshness! If you don't like cilantro, you can omit.

Chopped peanuts. I love adding in some chopped peanuts for a little crunch, texture and extra protein and healthy fats.

The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

    1. Add half of the mix to the center of an 8 inch tortilla. Add any other toppings you would like (ie. spring mix, additional cilantro, red peppers etc.). Repeat with the remaining filling.

    Substitutions and Variations

To make gluten-free: the filling for this recipe is naturally gluten free, just make sure you use a gluten-free tortilla.

To make dairy-free: this recipe is naturally dairy-free.

Coleslaw mix can be replaced with green cabbage or purple cabbage.

I love customizing these wraps with whatever vegetables I have on hand. Some other great additions include red peppers, chopped broccoli, cucumbers and spring mix.

    Storage

This tuna wrap is best eaten fresh. If you are planning to make these ahead of time, I recommend prepping the filling, storing it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and preparing the wrap the morning of.

To avoid the wrap getting sogg, place lettuce leaves over the tortilla before adding the filling. This helps create a moisture barrier between the filling and tortilla.

    Top Tips for Success

Customize these wraps to your taste preference:

    • Looking for additional spice? Increase the sriracha.
    • Looking for a fresher wrap? Increase the cilantro and lime juice.
    • Looking for a sweeter wrap? Add more honey!

I love adding more fresh veggies to these wraps like red peppers, cucumbers and spring mix as well.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between albacore and skipjack tuna?

I typically opt for albacore tuna because it has a more mild- “fish-y” flavour and tends to be a bit more solid than skipjack tuna.

Can I use tuna canned in oil?

I prefer tuna packed in water, as we are adding other rich fat sources to this recipe.
